SCALLY RALLY 2007
The Scally Rally commenced on September 14th and promised to be a motoring event with a difference. This is a rally in which all crews compete in a car that must cost less than £100. The route takes the crews from Calais, through France into Switzerland and finishes four days later in Rimini, Italy, having tackled some of the most prestigious passes that have their own place in rally history such as the Stelvio Pass and the Vivione Pass.
We (Pablo Raybold, Pete Bennet and myself, Alun Isaac) bought the car - a 1993 Peugeot 405 with over 200,000 miles on the odometer - for the event. It was already tastefully painted as below, although we changed the name from Short Fuse Sallee to Air Farce One. The car performed superbly throughout the event with just an occasional problem of the engine cutting out at high altitude.
When we arrived in Rimini after four spectacular days on the road, we were delighted to find that out of a field of 83 starters, we had finished in second place.
In addition to this success we also raised £712 for Chernobyl 2000.

Chernobyl 2000 held a Balti and Quiz Night at The Blue Ball in Quarry Bank on Friday 24th November. After filling ourselves on Balti, we split into teams to takes Mo's quiz challenge. I can't type the names of either the winner or the runners up as neither were particularly clean. Suffice to say there was a winner and a runner up and the charity would like to thank them both for putting their cash prize back in to the charity pot. There was a raffle and a name the bear competition and overall the night raised £457 towards our next convoy. We would like to thank all those who attended and hope you all had a great night. See you next time!
Chernobyl 2000 held a street collection in Bromsgrove on Saturday 25th November which raised £118.92. We would like to the thank the following people for turning out and standing in freezing conditions! Maureen Worton, Natasha Worton, Eileen Barnett, Bill Barnett, Kate Fardon, Tony Bradstock, Diane Bradstock, Malcolm Print, Sue Print, Sylvia Riley and Amanda Wells.
Chernobyl 2000 held a parachute jump in Wanborough near Swindon on Saturday 16th February. Despite being a cold day, the weather was perfect for the jump. Four people took part on our behalf; Kerry Burridge, Louise Johnson Mcguinness, John Smith and Amanda Wells. All 4 came down in one piece and 3 out of the 4 loved it so much they would like to do it again! Our thanks to them all for raising a grand total of £972.50 between them. We have another parachute jump on 26th April and anyone who like to take part should either use the sign up link on our events page or contact Sallie.
A supper and show was held at Eckington Village Hall on Saturday 23rd February on behalf of Chernobyl 2000. The event was organised by Robin & Elaine Powell whose daughter Charlotte came on our aid convoy in 2007 with Bredon Hill Middle School. The trip affected Charlotte profoundly and Robin and Elaine wanted to give something back to the charity. The event was attended by nearly 100 people and they were entertained by Encore, Charlotte and her two friends on the flute and the Eckington Smoothies. A wonderful night was had by all and they raised £698.54. Chernobyl 2000 would like to say a huge thank you to the Powell family and all their friends who helped make the night such a resounding success.
