What are we doing now?
- We
have just returned from our 2008 convoy, which
was as usual a challenge, but a success in the
end. We are currently working on the information
we gathered whilst in Belarus to develop our
plans for the next 12 months and a new wish list
based on what we heard and saw. Watch this
space.....
- We
are organising various charity events to try and
raise the money for this convoy. To see how you
can help, visits our Events Page
- This
year we are looking for new destinations to add
to next years convoys, as well as continuing to
support our existing locations.
- Our
new website has been launched to try and help our
supporters to access information about the
charity and our events (October 2007)
- We
are working towards bringing children from the
Uzda Music School to the UK, summer 2008.
- We
are looking into the possibility of taking
volunteers out to Belarus (when we go to collect
the children), perhaps students, who would carry
out specific community based projects.
- We
are working on projects
to get companies involved in the charity's work
through corporate development programmes. We are
hoping this will bring much needed funds and 'new
blood' to the charity.
- We
are working with other Chernobyl charities to try
and improve the new laws that have been
introduced governing the visas required by
Belarusian children coming to visit the UK. These
laws are prohibitive as they stand and will make
charities such as ours incapable of organising
much needed recuperative trips for these
children.
- We
are talking with UNESCO after they contacted us
regarding international school links and
twinning. They have realised that the links
developed by charities such as our own that are
based on friendship, are much more beneficial and
long lived than those that have been introduced
by government schemes in the past.
